Maternity Coaching

1:1 coaching for maternity returners to improve retention and pipeline progression.

Working with GE Healthcare

Maternity coaching has been introduced in this medical technology company as part of a range of initiatives to ensure women are supported through the maternity transition

“I have had the privilege of working with Emma over the last year. Not only has she coached several of our employees returning from leave, she also inspires us to think differently as a business about how we support our parents at GE Healthcare. Her insights are always thoughtful and valuable.”

Chloe Davies, Zone HR Business Partner, Northern Europe

The Programme

Women in client-facing roles, where they often have to travel to sites, are offered maternity coaching sessions on their return to work, to help them ease them back in after their maternity leave.

2

Objectives

The company is keen to retain these experienced and talented women, as traditionally returning mums find it more challenging to come back into these types of roles.

3

Results

The feedback from the programme was very positive, with 100% retention of all participants and one participant receiving a promotion.

Participants said they found the sessions helped with confidence, prioritising and blending work with family life, giving them the time and space to think through any challenges or concerns.

As a result of the organisational learnings resulting from the coaching programme, GE Healthcare set up a buddying scheme for maternity returners.

GE Healthcare is also now working with us to understand how the maternity transition is impacting on gender diversity in areas of the business where women traditionally are less likely to apply for roles.
